AS Val

The AS Val is a silenced assault rifle of Soviet origin. It was developed in the 1980's to be used in urban combat and the reconnaissance role. The name AS stands for "Avtomat Special'nyj", which is Russian for "special automatic rifle". The nickname "Val" means "shaft" and refers to the prominent silencer. The AS Val stems from the VSS Vintorez silenced sniper rifle and has a 70% parts commonality.

T-62

The T-62 is a main battle tank of Soviet origin. It was developed in the late 1950's as a follow on to the succesful T-55. The T-62 was produced in large quantities in the 1960's and played an important role in the Cold War. In several areas the T-62 is an improvement over the T-55. However, the slight increase in performance does not justify the production costs that are twice that of the T-55. The introduction of newer tanks made the T-62 quickly obsolete as the primary Soviet tank, a role which would be fulfilled by the later T-72.

Project 636 Varshavyanka is a class of diesel-electric attack submarines of Russian origin. In the West these ships are known as the "Improved Kilo class". The name Varshavyanka refers to the Warsaw pact. This class was initially developed for export to Warsaw Pact nations. After the fall of the Soviet Union the final stages of the development were financed by China, which is the major export customer for this class.
