Description

Introduction

The PP-2000 is a modern sub machine gun of Russian origin. The PP-2000 was designed as a personal defence weapon for military use and as a compact weapon for law enforcement use. With its distinctive looks the PP-2000 can be easily recognized.

Design

The PP-2000 is a compact weapon made of metal and polymer. It uses a blowback mechanism and fires from the closed bolt position. The bolt extends above the barrel and is fitted with a cocking lever. The magazine is seated in the pistol grip. The forward grip is an integral part of the weapon. The PP-2000 can be used with the side folding stock in both folded and extended position. A Picatinny mount allows optics to be fitted and a special mounts allows for accessories to be mounted below the forward grip.

Firepower

The PP-2000 fires the 9x19mm Parabellum round from a 20 or 44 round magazine. Aside from NATO ammunition the more powerful Russian 7N21 and 7N31 may be used. These have much improved armor piercing characteristics. The rate of fire is a manageable 600 to 800 rpm. The maximum range is quoted as 200 meters. The effective range is about 100 meters in semi-automatic mode and about 50 meters using short bursts.

Users

The PP-2000 is used in limited quantities by Russian law enforcement personnel. Small quantities may be used by the Russian military. Some nations with close ties to Russia have adopted the PP-2000 for their special units.

The PP-2000 is produced in only one version. The early production models did not feature a Picatinny rail or a side folding stock. Magazines could be inserted at the rear to serve as a crude stock. The stock and Picatinny rail were introduced in 2010. This newer model is often fitted with a Russian or Western red dot sight. A light or laser can be attached below the forward grip.
