Description

Introduction

The SSG-2000 is a bolt action sniper rifle of Swiss origin. It was developed specifically for law enforcement use by the German firm J.P. Sauer & Sohn. The newer SSG-3000 has replaced the SSG-2000 in production although both were produced concurrently for some time.

Design

The design has been derived from the Sauer 80/90 target rifle. It is a bolt action rifle with a rotating handle and non-rotating bolt. The barrel is free floating and a muzzle brake is installed. The furniture is wooden and the stock is adjustable. Normally Schmidt &Bender 1.5-6x42 variable power or Zeiss Diatal ZA 8x56 optical sight is fitted. There are no backup iron sights.

Friepower

The SSG-2000 fires the 7.62x51mm NATO round from a 4 round detachable box magazine. The accuracy is reportedly very good and sub-MOA accuracy can be achieved. The maximum effective range is about 1.000 meters.

Users

The SSG-2000 was adopted by many law enforcement agencies around the world. Due to its age most have been replaced by more modern alternatives.

The SSG-2000 can be mistaken for the Mauser SP66 since both firearms use a similar looking wooden stock.
