The G6 is a wheeled self-propelled howitzer with the same 155mm 45-caliber ordnance as the G5. Some modifications to the gun breech were later incorporated on the G5 Mark 3 (a.k.a. GV5).
The G5 is a further development of the SRC GC-45 design. The 155mm L/45 howitzer and base bleed ammunition are similar, but the G5 has a much improved carriage with APU.
The Austrian GH N-45 is also further development of the GC-45. It incorporates various improvements to the carriage also found on the G5. Although both systems are similar, they are not identical.
The 130mm M-46 of Soviet origin outranged any South African artillery in the 1970's. This was one of the main reasons for South Africa to acquire long range artillery.
