Armament
Kamov Ka-25
Main armament are the ASW helicopters. Standard loadout was 14 helicopters. These include 12 Ka-25PL in the ASW role, one KA-25PS for search and rescue and one Ka-25Ts for over the horizon targeting.
M-11 Shtorm
Two M-11 Shtorm medium range SAM systems are fitted. Each system has a B-189 twin arm launcher, a 4R60 Grom fire control radar and 48 missiles in a below deck magazine.
57mm AK-725
Two dual barrel 57mm AK-725 dual purpose guns are fitted. These are mostly intended for close-in air and missile defense. Each turret has its own MR-103 Bars fire control radar.
RPK-1 Vikhr
A single RPK-1 Vikhr stand-off ASW system is fitted. The MS-18 twin arm launcher has an 8 round below deck magazine. The 82R missiles carry a nuclear depth charge as payload.
RBU-6000 Smerch-2
Two 12-barrel RBU-6000 ASW depth charge launchers are fitted on the bow.
SET-53
Two 5-tube 533mm torpedo launchers were fitted until 1975. These featured the SET-53 and later SET-65 ASW torpedoes.

Project 1134A Berkut-A class
The Project 1123 was built using the proven boiler and steam set-up of the Project 1134A Berkut-A (NATO: Kresta II) class cruisers. This was done as risk reduction versus the new gas turbine technology, but turned out to be a less reliable setup in the long run.
