Sd.Kfz. 234/1 is a lower cost and easier to produced alternative to the better armed Sd.Kfz. 234/2 Puma. The Puma was the first vehicle in service based on the new 8 wheel chassis, although the designations imply that the Sd.Kfz. 234/1 was an ealier design.
Spähpanzer Luchs
The Spähpanzer Luchs was developed several decades later, but shares many design principles with the Sd.Kfz. 234/1. These include the low noise 8x8 chassis, rear facing radio operator acting as reverse driver and 20mm autocannon armament.
