Description

Introduction

The GL-06 is a standalone grenade launcher of Swiss origin. It was developed in the early 2000's by Brügger & Thomet to meet a market demand for a lightweight grenade launcher for the less lethal role. The GL-06 is a dedicated standalone grenade launcher and not a conversion of an under barrel grenade launcher.

Design

The GL-06 has a similar layout as the popular HK 69 grenade launcher. The GL-06 is a single shot breech loaded grenade launcher with a break open barrel that swivels forwards. The barrel is unlocked by an ambidextrous button in front of the double action trigger. An UMP-type stock is fitted and the top and frame are fitted with Picatinny accessory rails. Ghost ring iron sights are fitted for direct fire and optics can be installed on the top accessory rails. Most of the body is made of polymer and normally comes in black although bright yellow is also available.

Firepower

The GL-06 fires standard 40x46mm NATO low velocity rounds. It comes with its own lineup of non-lethal ammunition but can fire any type of lethal or non-lethal ammunition. The GL-06 is mainly created for direct fire and a ladder sight for indirect fire is not standard. The maximum effective range is 300 meters, which is less than the usual 400 meters for 40x46mm grenade launchers. Direct fire range is 100 to 150 meters.

Users

The GL-06 and its bright yellow LL-06 variant are available for law enforcement sales and are believed to be in use with several European police forces.

Variants of the GL-06

The GL-06 is a stand alone grenade launcher that comes only in one version. A variety of optics and accessories can be installed.

The LL-06 is similar to the GL-06 but comes in bright yellow and is marketed solely with less lethal ammunition. Even though it is able to fire any type of 40x46mm ammunition. The bright yellow color makes the LL-06 look less threatening.
