Initial armed variant of the Z-9. Introduced in the early 1990's. The early model features a roof mounted sight. In Chinese service its primary role is anti-tank, being armed with four HJ-8 anti-tank guided missiles. For export a wide range of additional armament options is available. These include gun pods, rocket pods, etc.
Improved attack variant of the Z-9 introduced in the mid to late 2000's. Instead of a roof mounted sight it features a much larger nose mounted optical suite. The engines have also been uprated. These include HJ-9 and HJ-10 anti-tank missiles, TY-90 air to air missiles, ADK-10 air to ground missile and C-701 light anti-ship missile.
The Z-19 is based on the Z-9WA airframe, including its uprated engines. The Z-19 has a slimmer tandem setup and lacks passenger area.
