Description

Introduction

The Galil Sniper is a marksman rifle of Israeli origin. In Israel it is also known as the Galat'z. The Galil Sniper fulfilled the role of designated marksman rifle and sniper rifle.

Design

The Galil Sniper is based on the 7.62mm NATO variant of the Galil assault rifle. It is fitted with a two stage trigger, large wooden stock, heavy barrel and is only available in 7.62mm NATO. It is most commonly used with a Nimrod 6x40 optical sight. Over time the furniture was changed to reduce weight and improve ergonomics.

Firepower

The Galil Sniper fires the 7.62x51mm NATO round from a 10 or 25 round magazine. They are semi-automatic and can be used up to 800 meters. Accuracy is reported to be less than a bolt-action rifle. The upside is its ability for rapid follow-up shots.

Users

The Galil Sniper was adopted by Israel and exported to various nations. Improved variants remain available today. In Israeli service the Galil Sniper was supplemented by the KAC SR-25.
