100mm KSM-65

The KSM-65 is an early Cold War era coastal defense gun of Soviet origin. Development started in the later stages of World War 2 as the S-65. Although the S-65 successfully passed Soviet state trials in 1948, the decision was made in 1951 to base the new coastal defense system on the 100mm KS-19 anti-aircraft gun and add an advanced off-mount fire control system for the entire battery.

Mikoyan MiG-23BN

The MiG-23BN is a late Cold War era ground attack fighter of Soviet origin. It was developed to meet Soviet requirements for a new generation of new ground attack fighter. The Mikoyan design bureau was looking at a new design, but budget restraints and requirement to deliver soon drove the design towards the MiG-23 that was on the production line. In time the MiG-23BN was further developed in the MiG-27, which has a different nose with much improved visibility in the air to ground role.

Steyr RSO

The RSO is a World War 2 era prime mover of Nazi German origin. It was developed early 1942 as a prime mover for towed anti-tank guns and towed howitzers in the Eastern front. Here in the muddy season in 1941 both wheeled vehicles and horse drawn limbers of the German forces suffered significantly. A cheap, yet capable, towing vehicle suitable to difficult off-road conditions was required. With the help of Ferdinand Porsche the Austrian firm Steyr developed the tracked RSO. There also was a wheeled RSO by Skoda, which is described in a separate article. The name RSO stands for Raupenschlepper Ost, describing it as a "tracked towing vehicle for use in the east".
