Description

Introduction

The M93 Crna Strela is an anti-materiel rifle of Serbian origin. It was developed by Zastava in the early 1990's. It is possible that there was an earlier Zastava anti-materiel rifle called M84, but little information is available.

Design

The M93 uses the proven Mauser bolt action system. It feeds from a 5 round detachable box. The furniture is made out of high strength plastics. The long barrel is heavily fluted and features a multi-slotted muzzle brake that reduces recoil with 62 percent. The bipod is mounted in front of the magazine and near the center of mass. The M93 is normally used with a 8x56 M94 sight, but other types can be used as well.

Firepower

The M93 is available in 12.7x99mm NATO and in 12.7x108mm Soviet. Both rifles use a 5 round detachable box magazine. Both rifles feature a similar performance, even though the model for Soviet ammunition has a much longer barrel. The maximum effective range is quoted to be 1.600 meters.

Users

The M93 is in use with Serbian forces and was used during various conflicts. The M93 is also been exported to various nations, making the M93 one of the more common non-NATO anti-materiel rifles. The M12 Black Spear is a modernized and lighter weight successor which is produced alongside the M93.

Variants of the M93

The M93 Black Arrow is an anti-materiel rifle that uses the Mauser bolt action principle. It can be distinguished from the newer M12 Black Spear by the larger stock and the forearm that covers the barrel.

The M93 is available in 12.7x99mm NATO and in 12.7x108mm Soviet. In 12.7x108mm Soviet the M93 has a much longer barrel, making it a larger and heavier weapon.
