The Pampero is a multiple launch rocket system of Argentine origin. It was developed in the 1980's to augment the Argentine artillery. Actually the 105mm caliber artillery rocket itself is called Pampero and the launch vehicle is called SLAM (Sistema Lanzacohetes de Artillería Múltiple).
The Pampero is based on the Unimog 416 all terrain light truck. The launcher features 16 launch tubes. The launcher is aimed using a sight similar to a mortar system. Elevation and traverse are manual. In the firing position four jacks are lowered to create a stable launch position.
The 105mm Pampero artillery rockets have a maximum range of 10.5 km. All 16 rockets are fired in a 7.5 second ripple. The Pampero fires artillery rockets with either High Explosive and High Explosive Incendiary warheads. For training inert ammunition can be used. Additional ammunition is carried on trucks that accompany the Pampero.
The Pampero is used by the Argentine Army, which acquired 4 launch vehicles. The Pampero is to be replaced by the indegenious CP-30 multiple rocket launch system. This newer system fires both 105mm Pampero and 127mm SAPBA artillery rockets.
