The QCW05 is a modern era sub machine gun of Chinese origin. QCW05 was developed in the early 2000's for two roles. The first is special forces use for a covert weapon replacing earlier integrally suppressed designs. The second use is as a lightweight weapon for rear area use, similar to the personal defense weapon requirement in NATO that lead to the FN P90 and H&K MP7. The export variant in 9x19mm was named Jian She 9mm upon introduction, but is now known as the CS/LS2.
The QCW05 is a blowback operated bullpup sub machine gun. It has an aluminum receiver located within a large polymer housing. This makes the QCW05 a rather light design. A grip safety is part of the pistol grip. The barrel is threaded for a suppressor, which was intended to be standard issue. The QCW05 has a fixed carry handle with iron sights. The export model in 9mm has a Picatinny rail on top of the receiver and is normally fitted with a detachable carry handle with iron sights. This can be removed to fit an optical sight. The QCW05 can only be fired right handed since its a bullpup design with fixed ejection to the right.
QCW05 is intended to be used with the subsonic 5.8x21mm DCV05 cartridge. The regular supersonic DAP92 cartridge can also be used, for which the suppressor should be removed. For the 5.8mm variants the quad stack magazines hold 50 rounds. Cyclic rate of fire is 900 rpm and less controllable than other sub machine guns. The selector allows for safe, semi-automatic and fully automatic fire. The export model in 9x19mm Parabellum uses 30 round double stack magazines. These are akin to, and reportedly interchangeable with, the 30 round magazines for the MP5. Maximum range is quoted as 200 meters with regular ammunition and 50 meters with the subsonic DCV05 rounds.
The QCW05 seems to have been adopted by Chinese special forces to a certain degree, replacing earlier designs such as suppressed Type 85 sub machine guns. The export model has been acquired by some nations in Africa and probably elsewhere as well. The QCW05 is indeed light and compact, but seems less controllable in practice than other sub machine gun designs. Compared to compact assault rifles the subsonic 5.8x21mm cartridge has significantly less power. For these reasons the QCW05 doesn't seem to be in widespread use.
Main variant developed for domestic Chinese use. It is chambered in the 5.8x21mm caliber, specifically the new DCV05 subsonic round. For the QCW05 the detachable suppressor is standard issue. The name QCW05 stands for "Qīng wǔqì Chōngfēng Wēishēng 05", denoting it is a suppressed sub machine gun.
The JianShe 9mm (JS 9mm) is an export version of the QCW05. This was first shown at an arms show in 2006. It can be identified by having a shorter barrel and forearm and charging handle on the left side instead of on top. It is also marketed with a suppressor, although this is probably optional. The new export designation is CS/LS2.
The name QCQ05 stands for "Qīngxíng Chōngfēng Qiāng 2005", denoting its role as a regular sub machine gun. This seems to be identical to the QCW05, but issued without suppressor and intended to use 5.8x21mm DAP92 rounds by default. However, it can still mount a suppressor and use the DCV05 ammunition.
The QCW05 seems to the replacement for the integrally suppressed Type 85 sub machine gun in Chinese special forces use.
The QCW05 externally resembles the QBZ95 assault rifle. However, these guns are unrelated in their internal design.
