The QCQ-171 is a modern era sub machine gun of Chinese origin. The design started out as the CS/LS7 developed by the Jianshe industry group as a private venture for export. After state trials it was adopted with some modifications for domestic use and named QCQ-171. It remains being sold for export as the CS/LS7.
The QCQ-171 looks like a futuristic version of the German MP5, which is also produced without license in China. The design was simplified to regular blowback operation, instead of roller delayed blowback. As such it is actually closer to the UMP internally. The upper receiver is metal, while the lower is polymer. As are the magazines. A Picatinny top rail covers the entire length of the weapon. Iron sights with long sight radius are normally fitted. As can be a QMQ-171 holographic sight. Various types of folding and retractable stocks can be fitted. Hand guards vary from triple rail aluminum to polymer with the ability to mount rail sections for accessories.
The QCQ-171 fires the 9x19mm Parabellum from a 30 round magazine., predominantly the local DAP-92 cartridge. The trigger group allows for semi-automatic and automatic fire. The cyclic rate of fire is not provided by the manufacturer. Effective range is quoted as 200 meters. Accuracy is probably good for a sub machine gun as it fires from the closed bolt position.
The QCQ-171 was adopted in China by the military, the people's armed police and other government institutions. This includes the Hong Kong garrison. The CS/LS7 has been exported to several nations. These nations include Venezuela and Mali. In Algeria the arms factory at Khenchela reportedly produces the CS/LS7 for use by the Algerian military.
The CS/LS7 was first introduced for export sales. Export models use a Picatinny rail handguard and red H&K style logos on the fire control group. Early models (A&B) had a fixed stock or adjustable side folding stock. The CS/LS7-C has the same retractable stock as the QCQ-171. The CS/LS7-D is a more compact model without stock and shorter barrel and handguard. This makes it similar in role and dimensions as the MP5-K.
The QCQ-171 is the government designation for the CS/LS7. The design was altered in several areas. The markings are numbers and no longer symbols similar to H&K. The handguard is slimmer and lacks the Picatinny accessory rails. A new retractable stock was developed, which is now also offered on the CS/LS7. Various optics and a suppressor are used by more specialized elements in the Chinese military and law enforcement.
The CS/LS7 and QCQ-171 externally resemble the German MP5 sub machine gun.
