A forward control cab is installed and the engine is mounted underneath. A wide variety of body types can be installed. Normally a flatbed with drop sides and tarpaulin cover is fitted. It has been classified as a 3.5 t truck, but heavier loads can be carried when travelling over roads.

Protection

The Star 266 is not armored and has no mine protection, NBC system or smoke grenade disarchers.

Users

The primary user of the Star 266 is the Polish military. It has also been exported to several nations. The early production vehicles have aged and are in need of refitting or replacement. Late production models are expected to remain in use for more than a decade.
