The TAK-120 is a naval gun turret of Swedish origin. It was developed in the 1960's by Bofors as a private venture. The aim was to provide the firepower of the earlier Bofors M1950 in a mount with is half the size and weight.
The TAK-120 is a dual purpose naval gun turret intended for use on ships of 500 t displacement. The single 120mm L/46 gun is water cooled and connected to an automatic loader. At the rear of the gun there are two 20 round magazines connected to two 6 round feed trays. These can be reloaded via a hoist that goes below deck.
The TAK-120 fires 120mm shells at a rate of fire of 80 rpm. The magazines can be fitted with different types of ammunition, although only one type was offered by Bofors. The maximum range is 18.5 km against surface targets. Range against air targets is about 8 km. Normally a fire control radar is used, but manual fire control is available as backup.
The TAK-120 was ordered by Finland for the Turunmaa class corvette and by Indonesia for the Fatahillah class frigate. Only the latter class remains in service.
The two Finnish navy Turunmaa class gun boats were armed with a single 120mm TAK-120 dual purpose gun each.
