The GLX160 is a grenade launcher of Italian origin. It was designed as the under-barrel grenade launcher for the ARX160 assault rifle. Development started in the early 2000's for the Italian Soldado Futuro future soldier program. GLX160 can also be used as a standalone grenade launcher.
The GLX160 is a single shot grenade launcher that operates in a similar way as the US M203. For reloading the barrel slides forwards among rails and a round is inserted. By sliding the barrel back the weapon is cocked. The barrel is made out of steel and the other parts of polymer.
The GLX160 fires standard NATO 40x46mm low velocity grenades. The effective range is 400 meters. The rate of fire is limited to the users reload speed. A capable operator can fire several rounds per minute. Aiming is done using iron sights, although an optoelectronic fire control system has been developed.
The GLX160 has been adopted by several users of the ARX160 assault rifle. It is currently not marketed for mounting on other types of assault rifles.
The GLX160 was developed for use on the ARX160 assault rifle.
