Description

Introduction

The LRT-3 is a modern anti-materiel rifle of Canadian origin. It was developed by Prairie Gun Works somewhere in the late 2000's.

Design

The LRT-3 is a bolt-action rifle. The design is up-scaled from the earlier Timberwolf sniper rifle in .338 Lapua Magnum. The LRT-3 retails the spiral fluted bolt design, but uses a plain barrel profile. The side folding adjustable stock is similar to late production Timberwolf rifles. A large three barrel muzzle brake is uses. A threaded section on the muzzle brake allows for a very large suppressor to be fitted, which encapsulates a large portion of the barrel. Picatinny accessory rails allow for various types of optics, bipods and other equipment to be installed.

Firepower

The LRT-3 fires the 12.7x99mm NATO round from a 5 round detachable box magazine. Using match grade low drag ammunition the LRT-3 can be used up to ranges of 1.800 meters.

Users

The LRT-3 has been exported to several nations. The main operators of the LRT-3 seem to be Saudi Arabia and Ukraine, although details on users are scarce. During various recent conflicts in the Middle East the LRT-3 has appeared in the hands of both government and irregular forces.
