Description

Introduction

The CV 9035 is a mechanized infantry combat vehicle of Swedish origin. It is a modern export variant of the CV 90 series of fighting vehicles. The name is derived from the main armament, which is the powerful 35mm Bushmaster III autocannon. All vehicles have been produced at the Mk III maturity level of the CV 90 series of MICV.

Design

The CV 9035 is a further development of the CV 9030 that is centered around the 35mm Bushmaster III autocannon and the Mk III upgrade package. The standard CV 90 layout is retained with the engine at the front, the turret in the center and troop compartment at the rear. A more powerful engine is installed since compared to the first generation of CV 9040 the combat weight has increased by 50%. The CV 9035 has a crew of three and can transport seven infantry. These enter the vehicle via the large rear ramp.

Firepower

The main armament is the Bushmaster III autocannon. A total of 200 rounds are carried in the vehicle. The two magazines hold a total of 70 rounds. The Bushmaster can quickly switch between the ammunition type that is fired. Ammunition types include APFSDS-T, HEI-T and KETF. APFSDS-T has an effective range of about 2 km against armored targets. The HEI-T is the general purpose round against personnel and softskin vehicles. This can be used out to 4 km. The Kinetic Energy Time Fused (KETF) round is used against low flying helicopters. These shells use a time fuse to create a buckshot pattern of 158 tungsten cylinders. The digital fire computer, laser range finder and stabilized day and night sights increase the chance to hit. A 7.62mm MAG coaxial machine gun is fitted. This has a larger elevation range than the main armament to aid in urban warfare.

Protection

The hull of the CV 9035 is made of steel and protects from small arms fire and shell splinters all around. Over the frontal arc it protects against heavy machine gun fire and 20 mm autocannon. Applique armor kits can be added to the front, sides and roof to increase the protection level. A digital defensive aids suite is coupled to the laser warning receiver and the smoke grenade dischargers. An NBC system and automated fire extinguishers are present.

Mobility

The tracked chassis provides a good all terrain mobility. The maximum speed is 70 km/h on road. Compared to the first generation of CV 90 the onboard fuel has nearly doubled and the engine is much more powerful. Dutch vehicles feature a Scania 810 hp turbocharged V8 diesel. The CV 9035 was marketed in 2004 with a 755 hp diesel, which may be present on the Danish vehicles. Due to the increased weight the CV 9035 is no longer amphibious.

Users

The CV 9035 is in use with Denmark, the Netherlands and Estonia. The Danish and Dutch vehicles were delivered between 2007 and 2010. A batch of Dutch vehicles was later transferred to Estonia to bolster its defenses. Dutch vehicles are planned to undergo a deep modernization to Mk IV standard. This will include an APS system, rearranged gun mount, digital upgrades, new tracks and a Spike anti-tank guided missile system.
