Description
Introduction
The ERC-20 Kriss is a self-propelled anti-aircraft gun of French origin. It was developed as a cost effective system for export sales. However, it wasn't very successful. Only a handful of ERC-20 Kriss were produced.
Layout
The ERC-20 is a light anti-aircraft variant of the ERC six-wheeled reconnaissance and fire support vehicle. The Kriss is fitted with a SAMM TTB220 turret armed with two French 20mm M621 autocannon.
Firepower
The ERC-20 is armed with two M621 autocannon. These fire 20x102mm ammunition at 800 rpm per gun. A total of 560 rounds are carried. There is no radar guidance, making the ERC 20 a daytime and fair weather system. This makes the ERC-20 effective only against helicopters and slow moving aircraft, such as used in the COIN role. The ERC-20 is also effective in the ground support role.
Protection
The armor protects the ERC-20 Kriss from small arms fire and shell splinters. The ERC-20 is operated from under full armor protection.
Mobility
The ERC-20 has a good mobility on roads and reasonable cross country mobility. The 155 hp Peugeot petrol engine provides a maximum road speed of 95 km/h and a range of about 700 km.
Users
Only 4 vehicles of this variant were produced for export to Gabon. These reportedly remain in service today.
