The RShG-1 is a modern disposable rocket launcher of Russian origin. It is not an anti-tank weapon, but intended for use against personnel in buildings or field fortifications. It is one of a series of Russian weapons intended for use in urban combat.
The RShG-1 is developed from the RPG-27 rocket launcher. The launch tube and rocket motor of the RPG-26 are retained. However, the warhead is much larger and heavier. Its filler and fuse are derived from the TBG-7V thermobaric rocket for the RPG-7.
The RShG-1 uses a thermobaric warhead that has an explosive power equivalent of 5 kg TNT. This makes the RShG-1 far more effective against infantry in buildings and soft skin vehicles than rocket launchers using a shaped charge warhead. The RShG-1 was officially adopted by Soviet forces in the early 2000's. It is difficult to ascertain the quantity in service and to which types of units it is allocated. The RShG-1 rocket launcher is derived from the RPG-27, which has a HEAT warhead for use against armored vehicles.
The RShG-2 is of a similar concept as the RShG-1, but is derived from the smaller caliber RPG-26 rocket launcher.
The RMG is a dual purpose weapon that was also derived from the RPG-27 rocket launcher design.
The dual warhead setup makes the RMG more suitable against buildings at the cost of having a smaller thermobaric warhead.
