The T-55AMV is a late Cold War era main battle tank of Soviet origin. The T-55MV and T-55AMV are improved versions of existing T-55 and T-55A. The MV upgrade package features the same improvements as the T-55M, but ERA tiles are fitted instead of the passive applique armor. The Kontakt-1 ERA is mounted on the turret front, sides and roof, the glacis plate and hull sides. The T-55MV-1 and T-55AMV-1 are fitted with the more powerful V-46-5M engine.
The D-10T2S is the main armament of the T-55AMV. During the upgrade proces a thermal sleeve was added to this gun and it was given the ability to launch the Bastion anti-tank missile.
The T-55AMV is a deep modernization of existing stocks of T-55A main battle tanks.
The T-55AMV was developed two years after the T-55AM. Both vehicles feature a very similar range of upgrades. The main difference is the Kontakt-1 ERA instead of the BDD applique armor package.
